Chad joined the Colorado contingency at Randy’s newly minted Dojo in Longmont for Spring Camp West. The main topic of this weekend’s camp was Kidlat Eskrima, a weapons based Silat-like system passed to Guro Bailey from Billy Bryant, akin to the empty-handed Cadena De Mano Kantaw Silat. Chad took us all on a journey to first black sash, which differs in large part from our drills in Progressive Arnis. Although about half of the curriculum is the same or similar to what we have seen in PA, a lot of new material was introduced. Guro Jason taught a class on transitioning joint locks from a distinct technique reference point, building off a Kidlat Eskrima lock flow. We also ran through some of Datu Kelly Worden’s Staff forms, and exercised the generous working space Randy’s Dojo was able to offer us.
We closed the camp out with testing, and had 3 promotions! Matt Trabona and Lisa Mellick were promoted to Brown 2nd Stripe, and Tim Ellis stepped up to Blue Stripe. Congratulations to them and big thanks to Guro Chad and Guro Jason for another great camp!
